Start with the self
Students use art and poetry to notice the experiences, values, and parts of their identity they want to express.
Knowing Me is a 12-lesson arts and poetry curriculum for middle and high school students. Through artmaking, writing, and reflection, students explore identity, culture, and community—and find their own ways to express what they are learning.

“The hands-on exercises kept me interested in the lesson. It made me think about things in a new way.”
These are not small questions for young people. Knowing Me gives students a guided, creative way to explore them, listen to one another, and bring more of themselves into the learning.

Prompts invite students to reflect on culture, heritage, and the stories that shape how they see the world.
Students consider belonging, representation, and how their own voice can contribute to a community.
The lessons are designed to be practical to lead, with different ways for students to respond and reflect. Educators can adapt the work to their classroom, schedule, and students.
Students can bring their ideas into the wider school community in ways that suit the group and the setting. Each format gives young people a chance to reflect on what they’ve made and decide how they want to share it.
We’ll talk through your students, your goals, and the support your staff needs, then shape a Knowing Me package that fits. If you’re exploring ways to support engagement, belonging, and social-emotional development, let’s start with a conversation.
